Approach
My tutoring services use the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading and spelling. This is a step-by-step, multisensory method that builds reading and spelling skills over the course of a detailed progression. This progression can be broken down into seven distinct stages, each corresponding to one of the seven syllable types. The teaching style can easily be customized to your child's learning needs.
It may take up to three years to complete the progression in its entirety, however your child may gain reading success before completing the program.
Lesson Options
Reading lessons are conducted in-person in a one-on-one setting, either in your home or an agreed-upon central location. There are two options available: two one-hour sessions a week, or four half-hour sessions a week. Two hours a week are necessary for consistent skill building.
Lessons always start at the beginning of the progression and proceed at the child's pace. A child's weekly progress will be recorded and regular reports will be made to parents, who may choose to end tutoring sessions at any time.

The consultation includes an optional assessment of your child's reading skills using a 10-15 minute diagnostic lesson plan.*

Miss Emily's Reading Toolbox is based out of Northport, WA. Because my specialty is limited to in-person tutoring, services are only available in Northport, Colville, and Kettle Falls. Families in surrounding areas who are willing to travel to a central location may be accommodated.
I am currently available during the following hours:
Monday- Thursday: 10am - 4pm
Fridays: 2pm-5pm
Availability hours are subject to change. I am willing to discuss flexibility options to accommodate your child as much as possible.
Pricing
Basic Rates
1 hour lesson, 2x a week (recommended): $45/lesson
1/2 hour lesson, 4x a week: $25/lesson
Payments may be made weekly or by lesson. Flexible payment options may be made by request.
Package Options
Package prices are calculated based on a weekly rate discounted from the prices above and an estimated completion time. Pricing remains the same whether the work is completed before or after the estimated completion time.*
Payments may be made in yearly or monthly installments.
*Packages include a 3 month buffer. If lessons overflow the buffer, services will continue at the discounted rate or will be discontinued at the client's discretionStage 1 Package
1 year estimated completion
Price: $4,200
This package includes all the steps in the first stage of the progression. Concepts learned include beginning phonemes, sight words, the definition of a syllable, rules for the first syllable type, consonant blends and digraphs, base words and suffixes, and beginning syllable division, along with corresponding spelling rules and exceptions.
This package would best fit students with mild reading struggles who simply need the right tools and a push in the right direction. I recommend that all my students complete most if not all of this first stage.
Stages 1-3 Package
2 year estimated completion
Price: $8,400
This package includes all the steps in the first three stages of the progression. It includes the concepts learned in stage one, plus two other more complex syllable types, more sight words, further instruction in suffixes, and intermediate syllable division, along with corresponding spelling rules and exceptions.
This package would best fit students and parents who need a little more help tackling reading and reading instruction. The next two stages build on the first for a more comprehensive structure.
All-Inclusive Package
3.5 year estimated completion
Price: $14,700
This package includes all steps across all seven progression stages. It includes all concepts corresponding to the seven syllable types, including hundreds of sight words, dozens of common prefixes and suffixes, complex syllable division, and all corresponding spelling rules and exceptions.
This package would best fit severely struggling students and/or parents who are committed to helping their child learn to read and are unable to do it themselves.
