Hi, my name is Emily, creator of Miss Emily's Reading Toolbox. I am a private tutor living in the Pacific Northwest with a specialty in reading and remediation for dyslexia. I learned to read at an early age and have loved it ever since. My goal is to encourage a love of reading in children of all ages and learning styles and to equip them with the tools they need for reading success.

After earning a general AA from my local community college, I began my teaching journey as a general tutor to a homeschool family with four kids, one of whom was showing signs of dyslexia. Working with this student and her reading tutor inspired me to look further into gaining a certification in reading remediation.

This decision pointed me in the direction of the Dyslexia Training Institute based in San Diego, California. I graduated from their online course in January of 2022 with a comprehensive understanding of dyslexia and the ability to implement the Orton-Gillingham method of remediation for dyslexic students, fully certified by the Institute.

My primary focus is my local homeschool community, where many dyslexic or struggling students go undiagnosed and have little to no access to resources for reading remediation. While my tutoring services remain local, I aim to have other resources available to homeschool families everywhere.
